The article explores how Surrealist exhibits are trying to revise the historiographic picture of the movement. It looks at the contextualization of Surrealism as movement of modern art in the 1936 exhibit "Fantastic Art, Dada, Surrealism," 1968 exhibit "Dada, Surrealism and Their Heritage" and 1978 exhibit "Dada and Surrealism Reviewed." It discusses Surrealism as an antifascist, anticolonial liberation movement, not an art movement, as proposed in the 2022 exhibit "Surrealism Beyond Borders." |
