Clues identified in the chemistry of preserved glassware seem to confirm the origins of glass production in Mesopotamia, with ancient Egypt manufacturing its own raw glass within the next 100 years. For example, although we know of glass production sites in ancient Egypt, no one has ever found evidence of workshops producing raw glass ingots in the Levant or Mesopotamia.
