The article discusses Dundee is often overlooked in the history of photography in Scotland. Enlightened citizens were aware of the developments in photography along the much discussed Edinburgh-St Andrews axis. Their response was the production of Daguerrotype portraits; experimentation with calotypes; uptake of new processes, camera design and manufacture; organisation of photographic exhibitions; pioneering documentary work; and successful commercialization of photography. |
