مستخلص: Spoilers and wings are integral aerodynamic devices used in automobiles to reduce drag or to increase downforce, as preferred. Rear wings help high-speed cars to increase the performance and maintain stability while racing. In road-cars with spoiler, the reduction in drag can result in an increase in the fuel economy. It is seen in the various literature that the calculated use of these devices can be used to improve the acceleration and braking of a vehicle. This project focuses on selecting the best automotive wing by analyzing various existing ones both numerically and experimentally using CFD and wind tunnel testing. The CFD simulations concluded that the NACA 4412 (at 5o) produced 41% increase in downforce than stock rear wing. The wing prototypes of the 3 airfoils are 3D SLA printed and are then fixed with the scaled down model of the race car. The scale model is set up in a wind tunnel and force measurements are made. The best wing design NACA 4412 (at 5o) that meets the objective is then selected and made into an actual scale model and fitted on the rear of a Opel Astra and appropriate force measurements are made. The results support the CFD results to some extent and show that increased downforce and drag for braking is achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
