The article discusses a paper that traces the development of the Alberta Sport Council, a crown corporation initiated by the Alberta government. The paper outlines the reasons behind the creation of this organization, key individuals involved in the development of the organization, organizational factors and the unique social, political and economic characteristics of the organization. A review of state involvement in Canadian amateur sport is provided and welfare state theories are explained. Regardless of its unique crown corporation status, the Alberta Sport Council followed the same patterns as government units from other Canadian provinces. |
