مستخلص: INTRODUCTION Cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) is among the most common congenital human malformations. Failure of fusion of the maxillary and medial nasal prominences or between the palatal processes results in clefts of varying extent, unilaterally or bilaterally. Clefts of all types are often associated with congenitally missing teeth,[8] and when compared with the general population, subjects with CLP have always been found to have a higher prevalence of dental anomalies. AIM The aim of the present study is to compare the incidence of missing teeth in bilateral cleft lip/ palate patients with non - cleft orthodontic patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was done in a hospital setting. The data was collected from the patient software system a private college and the samples included patients treated for bilateral cleft lip/ palate and non- cleft patients who underwent orthodontic treatment. The data collected was tabulated and statistically analysed using SPSS software. The results were tabulated and graphically represented. RESULTS The present study reveals that the incidence of missing teeth is significantly higher in bilateral cleft lip/ palate patients(25%) than non - cleft orthodontic patient (10%) CONCLUSION The present study shows that the incidence of missing teeth is significantly higher in bilateral cleft lip/ palate patients when compared with non - cleft orthodontic patients. In this study, no differences were found in regard to the gender of the patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
