Postnatal anxiety, a condition that affects both mothers and fathers, is receiving more attention as researchers explore its causes and treatments. It is estimated that 20% of women experience postnatal anxiety, and the prevalence may be increasing due to increased reporting and awareness. Biological, psychological, and social factors contribute to the development of postnatal anxiety, and treatments such as talk therapy and medication have been found to be effective. Screening for anxiety during and after pregnancy is becoming more common, but it is important not to pathologize normal emotions while also recognizing when they become problematic.
