مستخلص: The Bangka Belitung Islands are well known in the mining world as the largest tin-producing region of the mineral cassiterite. The rest of the tin mining results in still valuable minerals, such as ilmenite, rutile, monazite and xenotime. One of these strategic minerals is monazite which is radioactive and contains rare earth metals. The process of beneficiation of the minerals through differences in specific gravity, electrostatic and magnetic separation makes the concentrates of each of the minerals. This research was carried out by increasing the mineral concentrate based on its magnetism using a magnetic separator. Analysis was carried out with a particle size analyzer to determine the grain size distribution and mineral or phase analysis using Grain Counting Analysis (GCA), micro-XRF and XRD. The results obtained are the effectiveness of beneficiation with a magnetic separator in increasing the concentration of minerals, especially the radioactive mineral monazite, which contains rare earth elements. Based on Grain Counting Analysis (GCA) and micro-XRF, beneficiation by magnetic separator increases the monazite from 19 % to 37 % and 46 %. The characterization method of minerals by Grain Counting Analysis (GCA) and micro-XRF are comparable to quantitative mineral analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
