مستخلص: This article, published in the European Heart Journal Case Reports, discusses a case of a 73-year-old woman with a pacemaker who presented with redness and pain in the pacemaker pocket region. Initially, there were concerns of a pocket infection, so empirical vancomycin administration was initiated. However, further examination revealed that the symptoms were actually caused by herpes zoster, or shingles. The patient was treated with intravenous acyclovir, which led to rapid improvement. This case highlights the importance of accurately identifying rashes and considering tailored antibiotic initiation, as well as following guidelines for herpes zoster vaccination.
