مستخلص: This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, explores the role of colonoscopy in diagnosing iron deficiency anemia in young women. The study, conducted over a six-year period, included 157 patients under the age of 45 who underwent colonoscopy for iron deficiency anemia without an obvious gynecological cause. The results showed that colonoscopy revealed no abnormalities in 89% of cases, with various endoscopic abnormalities found in the remaining patients. However, there was no statistically significant association between the detection of significant endoscopic lesions and hemoglobin levels. The study suggests that a more selective approach based on the presence of digestive alarm signs could improve the efficiency of colonoscopy in diagnosing iron deficiency anemia in young women.
