مستخلص: This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, discusses the risk of contaminated duodenoscopes in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures. The study analyzes seven years of microbiological surveillance data to estimate the prevalence of contaminated duodenoscope usage and determine the sensitivity of duodenoscope cultures. The results show that between 16.1% and 23.8% of ERCPs during the study period involved contaminated duodenoscopes, and duodenoscope culture sensitivity ranged from 75.1% to 98.9%. The study concludes that despite surveillance and quarantine measures, there is still a significant risk of patient exposure to contaminated duodenoscopes, and lifting quarantine only after multiple negative cultures should be considered.
