The Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Vaisala meteorological measurements company, together with other public, private and academic partners, have initiated plans for a new mesoscale observation network testbed called the Helsinki Testbed, in southern Finland. The Helsinki Testbed will provide new opportunities for measuring, studying and predicting atmospheric processes and applications in a high-latitude coastal environment encompassing southern Finland, including the Finnish capitol city and the Gulf of Finland. First tests of the Helsinki Testbed will be in August 2005, in support of the World Championships in Athletics. Datasets will be available from each of the five month-long thematic measurement campaigns. The last campaign is scheduled for August 2006. |
