مستخلص: The article takes as its starting point one of the most common idiomatic expressions in the speech and literature of the Greeks of the Terra d'Otranto (Apulia, Italy) and explores the presence of the same expression (ta fìddha tis cardìa, 'the leaves of the heart') in Byzantine and Modern Greek literature, highlighting its diachronic presence and the different contexts in which it can be found.
