مستخلص: This article compares the histological patterns and aortic elasticity between patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) aortopathy. The study included 97 patients who underwent surgery for ascending aortic aneurysm. The results showed no significant difference in aortic distensibility between the two groups. However, histological samples from the TAV group exhibited more severe changes, such as calcific atherosclerosis, mucoid extracellular matrix accumulation, elastic fiber fragmentation, smooth muscle cell loss, and medial fibrosis. The study suggests that further research is needed to determine if these histological changes increase the risk of dissection in TAV patients. [Extracted from the article]
