مستخلص: Steel structures such as steel bridges or offshore constructions are usually placed in aggressive environments owing to their destination of use. Thus, the combined effect of cyclic actions and material degradations can lead to untimely corrosion fatigue failure. In the present work, a simplified technique for the cyclic assessment of steel constructions in aggressive environments is introduced. The proposed method is based on the concept of "critical corrosion degree", i.e. the minimum rate of corrosion inducing fatigue failure for a chosen target service life. Hence, an application of the presented procedure is shown with reference to an existing riveted railway bridge located in Italy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
