A recent report from the Netherlands Side Effects Center Lareb highlights the potential for a severe allergic reaction when the muscle relaxant effects of rocuronium are stopped using sugammadex. This reaction can occur even in patients who are not individually allergic to either drug. The package leaflets for both drugs mention the possibility of an allergic reaction, but do not specifically mention the potential for a reaction to the sugammadex-rocuronium complex. Lareb recommends testing for hypersensitivity to the complex in order to prevent future allergic reactions.
