This article explores the need for a new understanding of conspiracy theories that takes into account their political and rhetorical aspects. It argues that previous conceptualizations have focused too much on epistemology and have overlooked the political context in which conspiracy theories arise. The author proposes a critical conceptualization that examines the political content of conspiracy theories, how they are articulated, and how they seek to persuade.
