It is a commonplace the interpretation of Descartes as disinterested in moral issues. This is how Foucault reads him, for whom Modernity meant the separation between the new central subject of knowledge and the now secondary subject of praxis. In this article Descartes' work will be understood as a modern version of the philosophical art of living, where knowing and taking care of oneself are still united by a central axis, free will. Es tópica la interpretación de un Descartes desinteresado en temas morales. Así lo lee Foucault, para quien la Modernidad supuso la separación entre el nuevo tema central del conocimiento y el, ahora secundario, de la praxis. En este artículo defiendo que la obra de Descartes puede entenderse como una versión moderna del filosófico arte de vivir, en donde conocerse y cuidar de uno mismo siguen unidos por un eje central, el de la libre voluntad.
