مستخلص: A recent study conducted by the University of Mazandaran in Babolsar, Iran, examined the effects of cadmium exposure on the gill tissues of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) under different salinity conditions. Cadmium is a heavy metal that enters marine environments through industrial waste and oil production activities. The researchers found that sublethal doses of cadmium caused histological alterations in the gill tissues of the shrimp, with the severity of the effects increasing with higher concentrations of cadmium. The study concluded that concentrations of 2 mg/L or higher had irreparable and destructive effects on the gill tissue. [Extracted from the article]
