| Abstract (English): |
This article has focused on presenting and analyzing the life and missionary work of William Carey. For this reason, the main events of his life were considered, such as his upbringing, childhood and youth, conversion, preparation for the missionary work and the missionary work itself, with special emphasis on the foundation of the Baptist Missionary Society and the principles and strategies developed and used by William Carey to spread the gospel in India. In addition, the results and fruits achieved by Carey through his work were also presented, with emphasis on the social reforms he promoted in the areas of education and human rights. For the preparation and development of this article, books about the historical progress of Christian missions, biographical records on William Carey and the Enquiry he wrote were used. O presente artigo concentrou-se na apresentação e na análise da vida e da obra missionária de William Carey. Por essa razão, foram considerados os principais acontecimentos de sua trajetória, bem como a sua criação, infância, juventude, conversão, preparação para o trabalho missionário e a própria obra missionária em si, com destaques especiais à fundação da Sociedade Missionária Batista e aos princípios e estratégias elaborados e utilizados por William Carey para a propagação do evangelho na Índia. Além disso, foram apresentados os resultados e os frutos alcançados por Carey através de seu trabalho, com ênfase para as reformas sociais promovidas por ele nas áreas de educação e de direitos humanos. Para a elaboração e desenvolvimento deste artigo, foram utilizados livros a respeito do progresso histórico das missões cristãs, registros biográficos sobre William Carey e a Investigação por ele escrita.
