The article details the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls in 1947. The manuscript was discovered by Bedouin boys in a cave on the western shore of the Dead Sea. The manuscript was bought by the Syrian Metropolitan at the Monastery of Saint Mark in Old Jerusalem. Several scholars failed to recognize and acknowledge the antiquity of the Dead Sea scrolls, not until E. L. Sukenik, head archeologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, examined the Hebrew manuscript and declared its antiquity. |
