The article discusses the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and the academic accommodations that it is making for blind students such as Wayne Pearcey. Pearcey discusses how he meets class requirements for written assignments and exams. The school has created a computer lab in which visually impaired students can use software that will record music and transcribe it for Braille or for traditional scores. Composer Chi Gook Kim teaches students how to use the software. The obstacles of using the software are discussed by Berklee student Nyol Manswell. Berklee may enter into an educational partnership with the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts. |
