مستخلص: Objectives: In current study and for the firsttime, we assessed the incidence of diastolic heart failure among slow flow coronary patients and also determined its clinical determinants among Iranian population. Background: Some patients with diastolic heart failure have delayed opacification of arteries in the absence of occlusive disease than may be found in those with slow flow coronary syndrome. Methods: Forty-six consecutive patients with a pattern of slow coronary flow detected on their coronary arteriography were studied. Diagnosis of diastolic heart failure was based on angiography and echocardiography findings and was made in patients with typical symptoms and signs of heart failure. Results: Significant numbers of patients diagnosed with slow flow phenomenon had diastolic heart failure with the incidence rate of 47.8%. Appearance of diastolic heart failure was similar in both genders (men, 46.7%; women, 50.0%). Although diastolic heart failure occurred in more patients over 50 years old than younger patients (56.0% versus 38.1 %), this difference was not statistically significant. Comparing medical profiles between the patients with and without diastolic heart failure showed no meaningful differences in general risk factors for coronary artery disease, including systolic hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia and current tobacco smoking. Conclusion: The incidence of heart failure with preserved systolic function is notably high in patients with coronary slow flow phenomenon that similarly appeared in different age groups as well as in men and women.lt may be effectively controlled and prevented by lifestyle modification and dietary patterns.
