مستخلص: Objective: The biological effects of selenium (Se) and vitamin E (VE) on the development of psoriasis were studied in the mice model of vaginal epithelium. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of Se and VE on the antioxidant system of liver in psoriasis mice. Methods: To establish the mice model of psoriasis, 75 healthy female mice were given diethylstilbestrol for 3 consecutive days (except negative control), then the animals were randomly divided into five groups (15 mice in each group) and treated with normal saline for negative and positive groups, methotrexate (MTX), aqueous sodium selenite (Na2Se03), and VE+Na2Se03, respectively, for 12 days. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the livers of animals were determined. Results: The mitotic index in the positive control group was significantly higher than that in negative controls (p < 0.05), and the activities of SOD and GSH-Px decreased significantly when compared to negative controls. The significant decrease of mitotic index and the significantly increased activities of SOD and GSH-Px were found in Se supplementation groups when compared to negative controls (p < 0.05). Moreover, we also observed the significant decrease in the elevated MDA content in the liver of psoriatic mice. The significant differences were not found between Se supplementation group and the VE+ Na2Se03 group (p > 0.05). Conclusions: This data suggests the potential beneficial effects of Se supplementation on antioxidant enzymes in psoriasis, whereas the role of VE in the psoriasis therapy was uncertain.
