مستخلص: Musculoskeletal disorders represent one of the leading causes of occupational injury and disability in developed and developing countries. This study was designed to find out the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among nurses in University College Hospital Ibadan, Nigeria. A self-reporting questionnaire was used for data collection. Two hundred and eighty nine questionnaires (289) were distributed to the respondents. The questionnaire was designed to collect information on demographic data, factors predisposing to work-related musculoskeletal disorders and the regions of the body affected. Two hundred and fourteen usable returns (74.1%) were obtained from the questionnaire sent out for response. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages. The result showed that the 12 months period prevalence of self reported musculoskeletal disorders at any body site to be 90.7% while low back pain was the commonly reported musculoskeletal disorder with prevalence of 78.0% and the elbow was the least reported musculoskeletal disorder body site with prevalence of 23.4%. Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was found to increase with increased work hour per week. It was found out that job inexperience, volume and type of work were factors predisposing nurses to work related muscuskeletal disorders. It was recommended that enlightenment programme should be carried out to prevent or reduce the risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
