This article reports on the issues of concern over the plan to create digital content in Great Britain. There is a risk that local authority museums, archives and libraries will shortly lose the benefits of millions of pounds' worth of public investment in the creation of digital content. Will most public libraries do more than put out leaflets for their own New Opportunities Fund-funded digitisation project and perhaps for national programs such as Moving Here? Over the last two or three years, hundreds of information staff have been working to deliver £50m worth of content for the People's Network. |
