Abstract (English): The aim of this study was to elucidate how nurse managers judge clinical studies and placements for students in nursing. The study is part of a larger project where a university college and a somatic hospital have worked together to explore "Quality in clinical studies". A qualitative design was used. Data were collected through focus group interviews. The participants were fifteen nurse managers who were responsible for placements for bachelor- and postgraduate nursing students at their wards. Content analysis of the interviews resulted in four main categories with subcategories. The study shows that managers do take responsibility and have a positive attitude to provide quality placements. The main success factors are enough time to supervise students, supervising competencies in staff and improved cooperation between important stakeholders. The study reveals major differences in how clinical studies are organized. To be able to offer placements of quality to a rapidly growing number of students, nurse managers must be given resources and opportunity to meet these challenges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Danish): Hovedmål med denne studien var å belyse seksjonslederes vurdering av studenters praksisstudier. Denne studien er den tredje i rekken i et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom en høg-skole og et somatisk sykehus hvor tema har vært «Kvalitet i praksisstudiene». Kvalitativt design med gjennomføring av to fokusgruppeintervjuer ble valgt. Utvalget bestod av femten seksjonsledere som hadde ansvar for opplæring av bachelor- og videreutdanningsstu-denter i sin seksjon. Datamaterialet ble analysert ut fra fire hovedkategorier med tilhørende underkategorier. Studien viser at seksjonslederne tar ansvar for og er positive til oppgaven å legge til rette for kvalitet i praksisstudiene. De viktigste faktorene for å lykkes er at det må avsettes tid for veiledning, kompetansen til praksisveilederne må styrkes og samarbeidet mellom utdanningsinstitusjon og praksisarena må bedres. Studien viser at det er store variasjoner i hvordan praksisstudiene organiseres. For å kvalitetssikre praksisstudiene for et stadig økende antall studenter må seksjonslederne gis muligheter til å imøte-komme disse utfordringene. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
