Introduction: Recently there has been a fervent boost to reflection regarding the fundamentals of care in the nursing literature, motivated by reconsidering important values for the nursing profession such as compassion and dedication, and by organizational issues such as staff shortages or collaboration with other professionals. The purpose of this review is to identify what are the possible strategies in order to guarantee fundamentals of care to patients. Materials and methods: A literature search was undertaken in PubMed and CINAHL. 251 articles were found: of these32 full-text articles were selected, based on the research queries. Of these, 9 articles were excluded because they were not relevant. Results: The literature shows that obstacles to the implementation of fundamentals of care, mainly concern organizational factors (time, workload, influence of leaders), individual characteristics of nurses (attitudes, behaviours)and interpersonal factors (ability to relate to others). Strategies to implement fundamentals of care are proposed in literature. For example, the Intentional Rounding, a structured approach whereby nurses conduct checks on patient at set times or the Amalgamation of Marginal Gains (AMG) system, through which .a nursing care improvement could be achieved starting from small changes. Discussion: What makes a high-quality care possible, it is not so much a radical change in the general organization, as the fact that each professional adopts an approach that gives the same importance to every gesture he makes. It is an approach in which the perceptions, needs and experiences of people are systematically considered and it allows to identify the most correct way to respond fully to the patient needs. Conclusions: The adoption of a person-centred approach allows to fully welcome and satisfy the patient needs, which entails a complete implementation of the fundamental nursing care. Introduzione: Recentemente si è assistito ad una fervente spinta alla riflessione nella letteratura infermieristica riguardo le cure fondamentali, motivata dal riconsiderare valori importanti per la professione infermieristica quali compassione e dedizione, e da questioni organizzative come la carenza di personale o la collaborazione con altre figure professionali. Lo scopo di questa revisione è individuare quali sono le possibili strategie al fine di garantire alla persona assistita l'erogazione di cure fondamentali. Materiali e metodi: La letteratura è stata ricercata nelle banche dati PubMed e CINAHL. Sono stati reperiti 251 articoli e selezionati, sulla base dei quesiti di ricerca, 32 articoli full-text sottoposti ad analisi. Di questi, 9 articoli sono stati esclusi perché non pertinenti. Risultati: La letteratura fa emerge che gli ostacoli all'applicazione delle cure fondamentali riguardano prevalentemente fattori organizzativi (tempo, carico di lavoro, influenza dei leader) caratteristiche individuali degli infermieri (atteggiamenti, comportamenti, e fattori interpersonali (capacità di relazionarsi). In letteratura vengono proposte strategie per applicare le cure fondamentali, ad esempio l'Intentional Rounding, che prevede di effettuare dei giri di controllo degli assistiti programmati ad orario o il metodo AMG (Amalgamation of Marginal Gains) attraverso il quale sarebbe possibile ottenere un miglioramento dell'assistenza erogata a partire dall'attenzione per i dettagli. Discussione: Ciò che rende possibile un'assistenza di qualità non è tanto un cambiamento radicale nell'organizzazione generale, quanto il fatto che ogni singolo professionista adotti un approccio che dia la stessa importanza ad ogni gesto che va a compiere. Un approccio in cui le percezioni, le necessità e le esperienze della persona vengono sistematicamente considerate permette di identificare la modalità più corretta per rispondere pienamente ai bisogni dell'assistito Conclusioni: Adottare un approccio centrato sulla persona permette di accogliere e soddisfare pienamente i bisogni dell'assistito, il che comporta un'attuazione completa delle cure infermieristiche fondamentali.
