مستخلص: Melt-spun filaments based on shape memory polymers possess a high potential in textile applications such as shape-changing structures or textile actuators. Thermal treatment can be used to program a shape into structures made from shape memory filaments. Various triggers, such as temperature change, electrical impulses or others, can then be used to initiate a shape change towards the programmed shape. The development of these filaments is complex and their properties have to be adapted to the respective application. By addressing this complex development with multiscale experimental and simulative solutions, the driving process parameters for an application-specific material development can be identified. The influence of these parameters is investigated in pilot-scale monofilament melt spinning trials, using a thermoplastic shape memory polyurethane. Properties such as elongation, elasticity, and tenacity, can be controlled by adjusting parameters of the melt spinning process and influence shape memory properties such as shape recovery and shape fixity. By means of statistical experimental design, interactions between process parameters and the resulting material properties are investigated. The findings of these experimental trials are presented in this presentation and an outlook on possible areas of application for shape memory filaments is given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
