مستخلص: The article reports that first invoked literally in the 1793 U.S. Supreme Court decision Chishold v. Georgia, political correctness (PC) was used ironically among leftists to characterize extreme interpretations of political doctrine. Later it was deployed in esoteric debates about the "correct" interpretation of the Marxist corpus, political structures, and alliances. Its ironic deployment has been strategically elided in the neo-conservative backlash against new social movements; politically correct has become political correctness or PC and synonymous with "McCarthyism of the left" and illiberal education. It is invoked to censure feminist perspectives on sexual harassment, date rape, sexual minority rights, affirmative action, chilly climate, curriculum review, and avante garde perspectives like postmodernism.
