Light Bio, a company specializing in genetic engineering and plant bioluminescence, has developed a commercially viable glowing plant called the Firefly Petunia. During the day, the plant appears like a standard petunia, but at night, its leaves and blooms emit a soft green bioluminescent glow. The intensity of the glow changes depending on the health of the plant, and future generations of bioluminescent plants may change the color of their glow to indicate their needs. While the aesthetic appeal of glowing plants is currently the main focus, there are concerns about the impact on nighttime creatures and genetic spread.
