The article discusses the excavation project aimed at examining the archaeological history of the town of Silchester in Reading, England during the Iron Age. In 1979, the site's walled area was excavated to establish how far it had been damaged by the ploughing. Rich late Iron Age deposits were found in an extensive street-grid across the area. The site's archaeology has been barely touched by the Victorian excavations and was rich with complex stratigraphy. |
