مستخلص: The article investigates the relationship of the sensorimotor development period and adaptive behavior domains of severely and profoundly mentally retarded children in the U.S. The study demonstrated that the learning of communication skills is related to the cognitive stage of both non-retarded infants and older retarded children. Moreover, the procedure for canonical correlation was used to determine the relationship of the predictor variables of mental retardation.
