مستخلص: Chapter 5.4 of the book "Dynamic Food Webs: Multispecies Assemblages, Ecosystem Development & Environmental Change," is presented. The chapter examines the role of stream invertebrate food webs in the storge, utilization and translocation of carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) in small headwater streams. It concludes that in addition to the importance of headwater streams in the retention of dissolved nutrients, these streams act as critical providers of particulate C, N, and P to downstream food webs and therefore, at a landscape scale.
