The article discusses traditional African medicine and the role of various local plants used in treatment by native doctors. The author states that the different methods used by traditional healers depends on cultural, social, and religious environment of a particular African community. The article looks at various ways of cultivation, harvesting, preparation, and storage of plants. How these aspects impact the quality of medicines is examined. The article also discusses some obstacles in this field study which are a result of the substantial botanical, cultural, and linguistic diversity of Nigeria. |
