مستخلص: India has a significant level of solar insolation over wide regions. The total solar energy received by our land mass annually is about 60x1013 MWH. There are between 250-300 days of useful sunshine per year in most parts of the country. Over 3000-3200 hours of bright sunshine are received every year over Rajasthan, Gujrat, West Madya Pradesh and North Maharashtra and 2600-2800 hours over the rest of the country, except in Kerala, Assam and Kashmir where they are appreciably lower. The average direct solar radiation at places in the central part of the country is between 5-7 kwh/m². Solar energy is available abundantly, it is renewable and it posses no major environmental threats. However, solar energy is diffused and intermittent. And therefore, requires appropriate collection and storage systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
