| Abstract (English): |
The aim of this article is to evaluate the impact of municipal public libraries on local development on the basis of the case study of municipal libraries in the city of Tijuana. Participant observation, questionnaires, and interviews were used to study the activities carried out in the libraries examined in this research, whence a catalogue of these activities was drawn up and their impact analyzed from the perspective of the development of social capacities. The authors contend that it is possible to identify a positive impact on both the development of the capacities to interpret the life context, and the capacity to integrate and act socially. Lastly, the importance of municipal libraries as significant public spaces in the processes of subjectivization is highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

El objetivo del presente artículo es evaluar el impacto de las bibliotecas públicas municipales en el desarrollo local a partir del estudio de caso de las bibliotecas municipales de la ciudad de Tijuana. Para ello, mediante observación participante, cuestionarios y entrevistas se estudiaron las actividades realizadas en las bibliotecas objeto de la presente investigación, se realizó un catálogo de dichas actividades, y se analizó su impacto desde la perspectiva del desarrollo de capacidades sociales. Concluimos que es posible identificar un impacto positivo tanto en el desarrollo de las capacidades de interpretación del contexto de vida, como en la capacidad para integrarse y actuar socialmente. Finalmente, observamos también la relevancia de las bibliotecas municipales como espacios públicos significativos en los procesos de subjetivación. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
