مستخلص: Domestic and foreign merchants in the late Ming Dynasty had a profound influence on Tang Xianzu, whose thoughts incorporate the spirit of the merchants. In his works, Tang created various images which are a combination of Confucian scholar and knight-errant. In addition, he changed his world view when observing the foreign merchants, which is evidenced by the image of Liu Mengmei in The Peony Pavilion, who is stimulated to cherish his ambitions after knowing foreign merchants and their treasures. From this, we know the spirit of the merchants helped Tang Xianzu to some extent form his thoughts on literary enlightenment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
