مستخلص: The effects of acute and chronic administration of indapamide on systemic and renal haemodynamics were studied in 10 patients with arterial essential hypertension. No important changes were observed on mean arterial blood pressure, cardiac index and total peripheral resistance during acute administration of the drug. Chronic administration produced a significant reduction in both mean arterial blood pressure and total peripheral resistance whereas the cardiac index did not change. Glomerular filtration rate diminished significantly during the acute administration of the drug, while renal plasma flow remained unchanged. Urinary volume did not change whereas osmotic clearance increased and free water clearance decreased evidently. Both urinary sodium and potassium increased significantly during acute administration of indapamide. Long-term administration of this substance had no effect on renal haemodynamics.
