مستخلص: Efforts have been made during the past few years to develop an insulin that might in a measure approximate the continuous even internal secretion of the pancreas. Recently Hagedorn1 has introduced insulin protaminate and Root and his associates2 as well as Sprague and his associates3 have described clinical experiences with this product. Earlier investigators4 have attempted to devise methods to obtain a prolonged or sustained effect from insulin.Because of the rapid action of the insulin in common use, it has been necessary to administer the amount required in two, three or even four doses daily. Especially in severe cases of diabetes has it been difficult to control the blood sugar level between the extremes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. At best, the life of the diabetic patient who needs insulin is an abnormal one and any improvement that would decrease the number of daily injections, the
