مستخلص: The treatment of mouse blastocysts with cyclic AMP (cAMP) (1 mM) in vitro resulted in a 5-fold decrease in the percentage of embryos developing germ layers as compared with controls. However, outgrowth of trophoblastic cells from embryos was unaffected by cAMP. Theophylline (1 mM) was found to be synergistic to the inhibitory effect of cAMP on the development of the embryo proper. No effect was found with 5′-AMP alone, indicating specificity of the phenomenon to the cyclic derivative of nucleotide. Thus, the growing blastocyst appears to be the first stage of embryonic development with cells of differential responsiveness to cAMP.
