مستخلص: The safety of hydraulic embankment structures relies entirely on the proper modeling of earth dams subjected to seismic loading. Numerical resolution methods using finite elements (FEM) and finite differences (FDM) have made it possible to analyze the behaviour of the structure’s materials under various loading conditions, using models based on continuum mechanics and plasticity theory to understand soil-structure-fluid interactions. To address the potentially hazardous effects of seismic loading, it is important to assess the dynamic stability of the dam, taking into account the non-linear elastoplastic behaviour of materials, as well as the spatial variability of hydraulic and mechanical properties based on real data. The use of simulation software, FLAC 2D and PLAXIS 2D, enables the behaviour of an earth dam subjected to seismic loading to be simulated in terms of deformation and displacement. In this study, a two-dimensional analysis of the dynamic behaviour of an earth dam subjected to a seismic event of magnitude 0.35 g was carried out using two different calculation codes, namely Plaxis using the finite element method and Flac using the finite difference method. The aim of this study was to establish a reference model for the dam’s behaviour and to compare the results obtained using the two software packages. Good agreement was obtained between the numerical results of the simulations in terms of displacements and deformations.
