مستخلص: This study introduces a new approach for generating terahertz frequency (THz) using fiber Bragg gratings (FBG), which offers significant benefits in terms of reduced cost and complexity for communication and sensing applications. The proposed technique involves the fabrication of a THz source using a single FBG. The FBG has divided into two subregions, namely, the reference subregion and the half fully etched subregion. The half-length fully etched subregion was utilized to shift the reflected frequency relative to the reference subregion. In this case, the modified FBG reflects two distinct wavelengths. The reference subregion reflects one of these wavelengths, whereas the etched subregion reflects the other. Heterodyne interference occurs between the two wavelengths that have been reflected. The interfered signals are redirected by an optical circulator from the modified FBG to the optical detector, which then converts the signal from the optical domain to the electrical domain at terahertz frequency. The results of the study showed that the terahertz frequency can be generated using a single FBG. The generated frequency in this study is 0.335 THz, which is remarkable and has the potential to significantly reduce production costs.
