Mowing the grass from spring to autumn is one of the key tasks for each beef cattle breeder. The number of cuts depends on the intensity of farming however cutting the grass takes a lot of precious time and money. The main purpose of this diploma thesis is to study different parameters of cutting in order to mow a given area in the best time possible. With increasing concern for fuel conservation, farmers wish to reduce the amount of fuel required to perform specific farming operations. In a random block field trial we studied the impact of engine speed, the PTO speed and new cutting blades on the fuel consumption. We must also take into consideration that the price of blades is relatively high. Taking into account the calculations, we are certain now, that the engine speed and the PTO speed do not affect the fuel consumption as much as the replacement of old knives on a cutter bar with the new ones.
