| الوصف: | The importance of different factors involved in the limitation of primary production in oligotrophic Mediterranean waters were investigated, through both nutrient and production estimations and algal bioassays. All the results obtained show that phosphorus is the main limiting factor of algal production. Nitrogen and chelating substances appear to be less limiting and vitamins play a small role. Light and temperature were not limiting, but higher temperatures were responsible for increased physiological activities of the phytoplankton. Previous results from the literature and those reported allow the authors to conclude that, as far as primary production is concerned, the northwestern part of the Mediterranean Sea differs from the large oceans. |
