الوصف: In some animal species, fertilization occurs through a funnel-like canal called the "micropyle." In teleost fishes, the micropyle is formed by a very specialized follicle cell, called the micropylar cell (MC). Very little is known about the mechanisms underlying the specification and differentiation of the MC, a unique cell among hundreds that compose the follicle cell layer. The Hippo pathway effector Taz is essential for this process and is the first reported MC marker. Here, we describe a method to identify and mark the micropylar cell following the immunostaining procedure on cryosections or combining it with the RNA in situ hybridization on whole-mount follicles.
