Named after the Liassic period, and the suffix ‘Rhyphus’, frequently employed for the fossil anisopodid genera. Gender: masculine. Diagnosis. Wing venation only. CuA strongly curved posteriorly; crossvein cua-m very long and curved; large d-cell closed, located in middle of wing; veins R 1 and R 2+3 not strongly approximating at wing margin; veins M 1 and M 2 with a short common stem; apex of Sc situated well distad the level of base of R 2+3; R 2+3 weakly curved; R 4+5 curved, simple and elongate.
