The data on which the majority of the articles that deal with hereditary syphilis are founded have been collected in urban clinics. For this reason, it seems that a report dealing with this subject in a rural community will be of value. The difficulties to be met and the method of treatment are somewhat different from those of an urban clinic. A review of the cases observed in this clinic during the last ten years will be presented. INCIDENCE The incidence of hereditary syphilis has been variously estimated from 1 to 5 per cent, its prevalence being in inverse proportion to the social status of the group studied. The 192 cases which comprise this series were distributed among 5,671 patients, giving an incidence of 3.03 per cent. The majority of these patients were of the indigent class.
