This report documents the findings of an archaeological excavation and watching brief associated with works to renew the existing under floor heating system, and the installation of a new raisable dais at Manchester Cathedral in April 2013. This work was commissioned by Lambert Walker Conservation and Restoration Ltd on behalf of the Dean and Chapter of Manchester Cathedral. The works involved the excavation of the extant Cathedral floor in the North and South Choir Aisles, Retro Choir, Lady Chapel, and Nave to a depth of up to 300mm below the existing floor surface. In the nave, works extended to a maximum depth of 1.7m below the existing ground surface over an area 7m by 7m (Area C). Trenching outside of the Cathedral to lay piping for the new heating system was also monitored by Wessex Archaeology.
