Several concerns are linked to the use of fossil fuel-based energy for power generation like emissions of greenhouse gases, rising prices and depletion of these resources. Renewable energy usage helps in the alleviation of these problems. Solar photovoltaic technologies are pioneer in this field. Different types of semiconductor materials can be used in the photovoltaic devices. The effect of the application of different materials can be evaluated by modelling without actually building the device. This paper presents the performance evaluation of silicon solar cell versus germanium solar cell. A silicon solar, despite having almost double band gap than silicon, generates approximately 2.26 times more power than a germanium solar cell.
